Tanzania Safari Travel Guide

Unleash your inner explorer in Tanzania's Safari wonderland! Go for Wildlife safaris in the limitless savannahs of the Serengeti, watch the incredible Great Migration, and get up close and personal with the Big Five. Apart from that, explore the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, and relax on Zanzibar's unique beaches.

Tanzania's safari offers a variety of nature travel experience and adventure, from thrilling game drives to cultural treasures. Are you ready to go on the ultimate adventure?

Tips for Planning Your Tanzania Safari

1. Season matters- Choose the best time to visit Tanzania for a safari. The Great Migration normally takes place from May to June, providing great wildlife safari. May is also a shoulder season, and you will encounter fewer people and more economical choices.

2. Pack wisely- Pack light, neutral-coloured clothes, binoculars, and a high-quality camera to capture those unforgettable experiences. Don't forget sunscreen, bug repellent, and any prescriptions you may require.

3. Research and choose parks- Tanzania boasts diverse parks like Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire. Research each park's unique offerings, wildlife, and landscapes to tailor your safari experience.

Money and Spending

Tanzania's currency is the Tanzanian Shilling, although we recommend only using US dollars - and only in cash: credit cards and traveller's checks (while accepted in most businesses) carry transaction fees. ATMs are available in Tanzania's major towns and cities, but not in the country's national parks and while on Africa safaris. When travelling in the major Tanzanian cities, a 10% tip is customary in restaurants and bars when a service charge is not included.

Tanzania's Climate

1. April to May

1. Long rains

2. 72–81°F / 22–27°C

2. November to December

1. Short rains

2. 81–86°F / 27–30°C

3. June to October

1. Long dry

2. 70–81°F / 21–27°C

4. January to March

1. Short dry

2. 84°F / 29°C

What to Pack?

Throughout the year, light casual attire in practical, neutral hues and a warm jacket for early morning and evening game drives are a safe option when packing for your Tanzania safari.

To respect Muslim cultural values, ladies visiting Zanzibar should dress modestly in the main cities. T-shirts with sleeves, long skirts and capri trousers are often better choices than tank tops and shorts. Beachwear and swimming suits are completely fine on beaches and at resorts.
